BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said, ‘Bangladesh is becoming the most important for the nationalist party, these are the people of Bangladesh. We have to be with these people, we have to be by the side of the people, we have to keep the people by our side. You have to ensure this at any cost.’ He also said, ‘No one should be able to achieve personal interests by using the name of the party, by using the name of BNP.’
Tarique Rahman said these things in his speech as the chief guest while virtually connecting to the district BNP conference at the old stadium in Kishoreganj city on Saturday (September 20) afternoon.
Tarique Rahman said, ‘The people of this country have been struggling against the tyranny that has been holding the people of this country back for the past 16 years, and have been united in their struggle and agitation to regain their political rights. Tyranny has been gone. Currently, the interim government is running the country. The interim government has proposed some reforms. The interim government has presented 90 percent of the proposals made by the BNP to the people of the country two and a half years ago.
The acting chairman of the BNP said, “Now the interim government will arrange for elections in the first half of February next year. In the election that will be held in February, if the people have to vote in favor of our 31 points, our words that I have just presented to you, those of you who are present in the Kishoreganj council, as councilors, in a word, the people of the rice field who are present today and the people of the rice field who are alive in the whole of Bangladesh, who still want to establish democracy in the country, we must have one goal in front of us, that is, we must remain united at any cost. There is no alternative to this.”
Tareq Rahman said, “A few days after the dictatorship fled, I sat separately with various leaders including the district police station. In that meeting, I said something that dictatorship has passed away but invisible forces are slowly rising. What was said about a year ago is slowly becoming visible today. If we consider the interests of the country today. If the rights, political rights, and economic rights of the people of the country have to be established; which was started by the politics of development and production by the late President Ziaur Rahman. If the politics that Begum Khaleda Zia started for the future generation, including the progress of democracy, including women’s education, is to be maintained, if we have to move forward, we have no time to sit back.’
Tareq Rahman further said, ‘I know that ours is a huge party. During the dictatorship period, there were false cases against more than 5 million leaders and workers. There are many countries in the world, whose total population is less than this. We have so many leaders and workers. There may be different opinions of different leaders and workers. But when a decision is taken in the party, our job is to stand behind the party’s decision. Are you someone’s individual worker or a worker of a grain of rice. You are a worker of a nationalist force. When a decision is made by the nationalist forces, the rice grains, it will be the responsibility of each of us who believe in the political ideology of our country’s leader Khaleda Zia and Shaheed Ziaur Rahman to implement that decision at any cost. Today, those who unitedly made this conference a success. If we can keep every leader and worker united like steel until next February, we will succeed in bringing a popular vote in our favor.’
This top BNP leader also said, ‘Another very important issue. What I am saying again and again, we all have to be aware. Every person of Shaheed Zia and Begum Khaleda Zia has to be aware. No one should use our name, this party’s name, or the name of BNP to achieve their personal interests. No one should use our name to spread confusion among the people. Each of you has to take responsibility in this regard. Each of you has to fulfill your duty. So that no one can spread confusion about the party. Just as councilors are important to the candidates in today’s council, the people of Bangladesh are the most important to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party as a whole. We have to be with these people, we have to be by the people’s side, we have to keep the people by our side. You have to ensure this at any cost.’
The district BNP conference was held after almost 9 years under the chairmanship of District BNP President Md. Shariful Alam. General Secretary Mazharul Islam conducted the program. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir inaugurated the program. BNP Chairperson’s Advisor Abdus Salam, Joint Secretary General of the party’s National Executive Committee Habib-un Nabi Khan Sohel, Emran Saleh Prince, Treasurer Rashiduzzaman Millat, Joint Organizing Secretaries Shah Wares Ali Mamun and Abu Wahab Akand and members Laila Begum and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Iqbal spoke at the event.
